Travel | Taipei: Sun Yat Sen & Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, NTU Hospital, Peace Park, Gu Ting Market, Taipei Metropolitan Park

Due to my hurting back and weak knees, I decided to just randomly sit buses and look around the city. There are bus stations everywhere, and Google is very helpful where it shows the nearest bus stop around you and the estimated time arrival of buses. Malaysia should put effort on this! So these are the places I’ve visited for Day 4

  • Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall ( 国父纪念馆 )
  • GuTing Market
  • Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall (中正紀念堂)
  • NTU Hospital
  • 2/28 Peace Park (二二八和平公園)
  • Taipei Metropolitan Park

Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall

It is a must go place for tourists since you can know more about the history of Taiwan and stuff. But, locals just recommend me to look at the landscape and the fountain first before entering to the hall. Every hour, you’ll get to see performance of marching, and trust me, there will be a lot of China tourists and they will squeeze with you to watch the performance. To avoid this, best way for you is to wait till they get bored and leave, then you sip into their spot. This only applies to people who don’t mind missing the earlier/starting part.

Gu Ting Market

I got here by bus. I couldn’t afford to walk more places and I came this place by random. Looking outside from the window and choose the place where you wish to get down is quite fun. It was 2pm and the shop was closing. Luckily I manage to order first before they closes. Prices are below, I’ve forgotten what I ordered as the food I ate was recommended by locals. The portion is quite small for me. Malaysian tummies (food capacity storage) are really bigger than Taiwanese. I can eat more food than one Taiwanese adult.

Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall

This wasn’t in my plan. I was attracted when I looked outside from the bus. I love this place more than the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall. This place is huge like so huge I love how they maintain the cleanness and the pond with fishes! (Fishes are my favorite animal). Had to force myself to walk up the stairs and look at the building itself. Worth it. Worth the pain.

NU Hospital

The bus leads the way. I did not plan to visit a hospital in my trip (who would?). If you like old vintage buildings, you could come over and have a look. It is accessible by railway. Love love love the fish pond here. I would want to go down there but oh well, I shy.

2/28 Peace Park

This Park is just opposite of the Hospital. I am very surprised that there’s LGBT park like a open area park for you to exercise and breathe in clean air. Read the board below for more information about this park. I did not stay long in the park.

Taiwan Metropolitan Park

Came here by bus. I shouldn’t stay in the bus for too long after it passes Xi Men Ding. It went across the bridge and this is the new Taipei Area (which has nothing to offer). Second, it was raining, I had a hard time to figure out how to leave this place in a cheap price. No worries, there’s an railway here to get you back to the city. Less bus available to head back to the city area (Xi Men Ding is the nearest station going back to the Taipei area from here)

Dinner

  • Fried Rice with Corn 80yuan
  • Mixed Beef Soup (small) 60yuan
Not sure how did I found this place, but I’ve craved beef since. Like usual, the portion was so small I wasn’t completely full for this dinner but to save cost, I’ll have to zen and meditate myself to breathe in more air. Prices are below.

End of Day 4

This day wasn’t a fully well-planned day. Feeling pain and ache in the body does affects the whole trip. I would really like to find out why my bones are so weak or is it my posture was wrong all along. Complains aside, bus hopping is one good experience, and I was being scolded by bus driver because I wasn’t sure how to use their card payment system – Should I scan twice (in and out) or just once (in or out?). There are various of bus companies are on the road, better to ask the driver before searching for a seat.
